‘Beautiful View, Magnificent Desolation’; or, Blood on the Ice

BUZZ ALDREN’S first words on the moon were “Beautiful View, Magnificent Desolation.” Not as catchy as Armstrong’s “One Small Step for Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind,” but more prophetic if the ‘desolation’ is referring to the future of Earth.

The American flag left on the surface of the Moon by the Apollo 11 mission has since been bleached completely white by solar radiation. Unable to manage our affairs any longer- if we ever could- this white flag now signals our surrender to the universe at large. Someone, anyone, is welcome to come and save us from ourselves.

THE BLUE MARBLE PHOTO! The first pictures taken of Earth from the Moon, played a major role in the launch of the modern environmental movement of the late 60s/early 70s. Millions were humbled, and even felt a spiritual awakening, by the images of this precious, life-sustaining treasure buoyed by an eternal void. Earth was recognized as the only home we have, and needed to be preserved at all costs.

For others, the image was a stark reminder that global resources were finite, so they’d better be snatched up fast before some other bastard does it first. The tension between these two philosophies has pretty much defined human industry for the past 50 years.

DER FUHRER recently held a Bund rally in North Carolina. The highlight came when his malignant, racist rhetoric inspired the 8,000 mutants in attendance to start chanting “SEND HER BACK” in regards to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), a Somalian refugee who became an American citizen at age 17 and who has probably had to endure more in her life than any of them could possibly comprehend.

“SEND HER BACK” now replaces the “LOCK HER UP” chant about Hillary Clinton that was so popular among mainstream conservative lynch mobs in 2016. This would, of course, not be the first time this sort of poisonous rhetoric was popularized by the Right.

These posters were hung up around the Dallas area right days before the abrupt conclusion of JFK’s Presidential term on November 22nd, 1963.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME has surpassed Avatar as the highest domestic-grossing movie of all time. This affects your life in ways that remain unclear, but congratulations, all the same.

Please note: with adjustments for inflation, the highest domestic grossing movie of all time is still “Gone With The Wind”; that beloved 1939 film about The Southern Lost Cause, the War of Northern Aggression, and how Reconstruction failed because former slaves couldn’t hack it as free citizens without the benevolent paternalism of their former masters.

THE END OF THE DECADE IS NEAR! Indiewire has compiled a Top 100 list of the decade’s most notable movies. Check them out while you can still rent Blu-Rays through Netflix. Soon everything will be completely segmented into different streaming services that cost everything and offer nothing.

QUICK REMINDER THAT DENNIS HASTERT, America’s longest-serving Republican Speaker of the House, is a convicted child molester who abused numerous students during his career as a high school gym coach. Hastert did eventually go to jail after his time in Congress. Like so many of his ilk, his misstep was not the crime itself, but his clumsy attempts to pay off his victims and cover up the crimes.

That Hastert is the highest-ranking member of Congress to have ever gone to prison, and for such a lurid reason, seems to have slipped down the memory hole and rarely gets remembered or mentioned in the media or public life; even as a trivia curiosity. Likely this is because the Right controls the media narrative at all times, while the Center-Left often just reacts or punches Left. BLM and Antifa are the real terrorists, for example, despite literally every act of domestic terror and bloodshed in the last year being committed by “fringe” right-wing groups. The Clintons are “criminals” (admittedly not the most transparent of people), despite Trump being involved in a dozen civil and criminal lawsuits at any given time.
